Preamble

Education is one of the fundamental human values; it is both a goal and a means of exploring the world and oneself, and an effective tool for moral development. Studying at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at TU Košice, besides the academic requirements, places high moral expectations on students. The aim of this Code is to ensure that students, during their studies and after graduation, represent the Faculty with dignity, not only as excellent professionals but also as bearers of ethical principles.

The Code contains the basic rules of student conduct, which must be observed in terms of ethical interaction with persons (students, faculty, and other staff) at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, TUKE. This ethical code generalizes and formalizes these requirements.

Article 1

Basic Provisions

The Code of Ethics expresses the fundamental moral requirements for students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, TUKE (hereinafter referred to as "the student") in accordance with the Constitution of the Slovak Republic, Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions, as amended, in line with the Statute of TUKE, and other regulations relating to studies at the Faculty.

The basic moral qualities characterizing student behavior are: humanity, reasonableness, honesty, decency, correctness, consideration, responsibility, sense of duty, respect for the dignity of others, and awareness of one’s own dignity and honor. Applying these qualities regulates student behavior across the broad range of relationships encountered during their studies at the Faculty.

Article 2

Moral Principles of Students

  1. Students take pride in their affiliation with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, TUKE. They act in ways that preserve the Faculty's prestige and social credibility. They respect its name, symbols, academic authorities, faculty, and other staff. In interactions with staff, fellow students, individuals from other institutions, and the public, students act with dignity and respect, following social etiquette.
  2. Students recognize that university study is a demanding, creative, and educational process requiring mutual respect between students and teachers. They act to maintain these relationships for successful learning.
  3. Students follow the TUKE Study Regulations and apply them ethically. During lessons, they are attentive, active, and come prepared for classes and exams.
  4. Students do not disrupt classes or exams through late arrivals, early departures, or unrelated activities, and they do not use mobile phones or other audio devices without permission. Computing and recording equipment may only be used with the instructor’s consent. Students do not attend classes under the influence of alcohol or drugs, do not eat or sleep during lectures, and observe the no-smoking policy.
  5. Students do not plagiarize or falsify information in seminar, term, or final papers. They respect legal and ethical requirements for citing sources and correctly referencing literature. They do not use unauthorized aids or impersonate others during examinations.
  6. Students treat teachers and peers with respect, act courteously and tolerantly, and do not harass, discriminate against, or insult anyone based on origin, nationality, religion, age, gender, or disability, nor do they use or threaten violence.
  7. Students observe social and hygiene norms at the Faculty and University, dress appropriately for classes and exams, and behave in a manner that does not disturb others.
  8. Students handle Faculty property and equipment responsibly, using technical and computing resources only for educational purposes and in compliance with safety regulations.
  9. Students consciously obey national and international laws and official regulations and respect TUKE’s internal rules and regulations of other institutions during mobility or internships.
  10. Students do not damage or steal the property of the Faculty, its staff, students, or other entities encountered during study.
  11. Students can prove their identity using a student ID (ISIC), index, or other official document.

Final Provisions

The Student Code of Ethics is issued by the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, TUKE, as an internal regulation and becomes effective on the date of issue.

All students of the Faculty are obliged to behave in accordance with the Code. Serious violations, as determined by the disciplinary committee, are addressed by the Dean in accordance with legal regulations.
